Live engineers troubleshoot audio issues real time. They are faced with the challenge of monitoring the quality of the sound, communicating with staff managing equipment, and being tuned in, paying attention to the run of the show.  While they may seem to only be turning sound on and off they are integral to making sure that the show runs smoothly.
